What is Foodborne Illness?
Food borne illness is any illness resulting from ingestion of food, there are 3 types of hazards associated with food borne illness.
a) Biological Hazards
food borne infection (caused by bacteria in food)
food borne intoxication (caused by toxin produced by bacteria in food)
food borne intoxification (caused by bacteria and toxin produced by bacteria in food)
b) Chemical Hazards
some chemical that occur naturally in foods and those added to foods.
c) Physical Hazards
bone, metal, plastics, and any other foreign matter that can cause damage to consumer if ingested.
How to prevent it?
Keep it HOT
Cook food with proper temperature so that it is safe to eat.
Keep it COLD
Chill or freeze the food if you were to store it more than 2 hours.
Avoid Cross Contamination
Separate raw and cooked food to eliminate cross contamination
